The Culture of Autism & A Structured Teaching Approach to Learning
Fall/Winter 2022-2023
This is a 12-hour course designed to cover the characteristics of Autism and a structured teaching approach (from the TEACCH® Autism Program). Content will include strengths and challenges of Autism Spectrum Disorders, communication, social issues and behavior regulation. The course is appropriate for Pre-K through Post-High General and Special Educators, Paraprofessionals, Related Service Providers, and Administrators. 12 hours of continuing education credits will be offered for in class time. Teachers can earn up to four additional points by fabricating individualized supports for one or more students, for a total of 16 possible CEU’s.

This is a regional class offered by the Piedmont Regional Education Program (PREP) Autism Behavior Consulting (ABC) Team. Maximum enrollment is 40. Divisions participating in PREP’s Autism Behavior Consulting (ABC) services get the following seats at no cost:
Charlottesville 10 seats Greene 10 seats Madison 4 seats Nelson 2 seats
All other divisions not participating in PREP’s ABC Services (Albemarle, Culpeper, Fluvanna, Lousia, Orange) have access to the 14 remaining seats on a first come, first served basis, at $100 per seat. PREP will bill divisions for these seats at the conclusion of the workshop. Participants should get permission to register from their Special Education Supervisor.
